Whimsical Winds
Whimsical Winds is the largest retailer of wind chimes on the web with over 600 styles available and in stock. They pride themselves on the personal touch that they can bring to each order and the vast selections of well-made wind chimes in their inventory. After being in business for over 15 years the time had come for an upgraded website and logo. What we wanted to focus on as the designers was to keep the same nostalgia and brand recognition as the old logo, while adding in new elements.
A new but similar script font was chosen for the logo and was manipulated to become slightly bolder, creating more substance and allowing for the logo to work functionally on a variety of different backgrounds and surfaces (logo design by Tyler Gladhill).
The logo was designed to change colors and work with different color palettes to represent different seasons. The slanted series of lines are an abstract representation of chimes blowing in the wind. The lines also double as a contrasting pattern and section separator to be used on stationery sets and the website. The old Whimsical Winds website had a tradition of changing color palettes with the seasons. We held true to this tradition and chose new color palettes.
Wind chimes provide us with a sense of peace and ease. We wanted that feeling to be reflected on the design of the website. Calming color palettes were paired with large, season-appropriate imagery.
Customers needed an easy to use website that could focus on marketing new products, personalization options and product search features. We analyzed how potential customers may be navigating through the website and designed a structure with a main navigation bar at the top of the page in combination with a side navigation bar. The different sections of the website were given space and clutter was eliminated.
